Try a site called Freecycle.org . Its basically an online community based around your neighbor. It allows people to give and receive items without exchanging money. You post what you need, and people email you if they can give it to you. You can also post stuff you want others to take. No barter, no money, no exchanges. You could also try Goodwill, Churches, Salvation Army, or even ask the Boys Scouts of America about programs for fixed income members.
