Furman Football Signs 10 To National Letters Of Intent

GREENVILLE, SC — Furman head coach Bruce Fowler today announced the signing of 10 recruits to national letters of intent. “We’re extremely excited about our first recruiting class, and I want to compliment our assistant coaches and staff for their outstanding work,” said Fowler on Wednesday. “We’re thrilled with the high character, strong academic credentials, and solid athletic ability of these young men and look forward to them being fine representatives of Furman football and our great university.” The Paladins’ recruiting class, which features seven offensive players and three defensive performers, includes six recruits from Georgia, two from Tennessee, one from Alabama, and one Canadian who played his high school ball in New York.

College recruiting for the 2009-2010 school year

College recruiting is where colleges and students alike take the time to evaluate any special talents and or abilities that students or potential students have that sets them apart from others. Many universities and colleges have Offices that are usually called The Office of Advising and Recruiting or wording to that effect. These offices are there to help both incoming students and those that are already in college by advising the students about programs relevant to their academic goal as well as their personal and career goals. These advisors are there twofold. They are there to make sure their university or college gets the best students they can recruit and after recruitment they are there to make sure the student lives up to their potential or exceeds their potential.

Overhead view of Preble Field, looking south toward Camp Nimitz, Coronado Island, and Point Loma.

Preble Field was the marching grinder used for training recruits in marches and maneuvers, as well as recruit pass-in-review (graduation). On the southern end of Preble Field was Sealanes, the NTC Bowling Alley (Building 85, demolished in 2001), as well as the boxing ring (demolished late 90′s), and the Hull athletic field.

Today, the area is now part of Liberty Station. Preble Field itself is a dirt lot, but is currently under construction to become a large park.
